Mary Treadgold
(1910 - 2001)
Daughter of a City stockbroker, Mary Treadgold was an editor at Heinemann’s when she wrote her first book during nights spent in London air raid shelters. She later worked for the BBC alongside George Orwell. Her first book won the Carnegie Medal.
