Julia M. Thompson Seton

Julia M. Buttree was a student at Hunter College, New York, and an author who published extensively on Native American arts, crafts, and music. Her first book, Rhythm of the Redman, was illustrated by Ernest Thompson Seton, and was published before they married in 1935.
Together they wrote The Gospel of the Redman. Julia worked as Seton’s assistant and they both gave lectures at schools, clubs, and churches throughout the United States, Canada, France, England, and the Czech Republic. After Seton’s death in 1946, Julia continued to write and maintain the Santa Fe estate, and also lectured on her own. She suffered a stroke in 1968 and died in Santa Fe in 1975.
