Joseph Eduard Adolf Spier was a popular Dutch artist and illustrator. He moved to the United States in 1951 with his family and continued to work until the end of his life.
Spier was married to Albertine Sophie "Tineke" van Raalte and they had three children. One of them was Peter Spier, a noted illustrator of children's books.
